What is Cellulitis in Children?

Cellulitis is an infection of the skin and deep underlying tissues. Cellulitis is a common skin infection caused by bacteria.

What are the signs and symptoms of Cellulitis in Children?

Signs of cellulitis include areas of redness, skin tenderness, and fever. All of these skin infections are usually warmer than the surrounding normal areas of skin because of the body’s reaction to the infection.

How is Cellulitis in Children treated?

Treatment usually consists of antibiotics to be taken by mouth for about 10-14 days.

Recovery

Most children will completely recover from deep infections after proper treatment. In most cases, children have no further problems and return to all of their activities.

Prognosis

In general, children do better when the infection is recognized early. There is a greater chance for full recovery when the infection is quickly recognized and treated.
